Musicians from all over the globe are reppin' on Turnip Music Radio's Top 25 for July 2022.  This month's playlist features artists from Australia, the UK, Canada, and the US. 
Listen in as Team Derringer (Paul, Laura, Dave, and Alton) counts down the Top 10 songs from this month's crop of new music. Enjoy song snippets and witty banter as the team members announce the Top 10.
If you want to check out songs on the Turnip Music Radio Top 25 for July 2022, you'd better hurry!  Once the month has ended, the Top 25 playlist will be refreshed with a whole new batch of songs from artists the world over.
Starting this month, we are publishing a monthly Top 10 Countdown episode featuring song snippets and Team Derringer insights on the top ten songs on the TMR Top 25 chart.
Each month, Derringer Discoveries publishes the Turnip Music Radio (TMR) Top 25 chart featuring new songs voted on by our Turnip Tillers (i.e., special listeners), as culled from our TMR Compelling & New playlist.
The songs on Compelling & New come to us three ways: (1) as direct submissions at our derringerdiscoveries.com website; (2) as submissions via Soundplate.com (UK), and (3) as recommendations made by our Turnip Tillers.
Anyone submitting a song recommendation for Compelling & New will need to first subscribe to our free newsletter, easily done at our website derringerdiscoveries.com.
The #1 song from each month for 2022 will become a finalist for Song of the Year.  In December, we will submit a ballot to our Turnip Tillers containing the twelve #1 songs from 2022 and the Tillers will decide Song of the Year.

L.A. Women (EP35)

In this episode, Team Derringer - Laura, Alton, Dave, and Paul - commemorates the recent 50th Anniversary re-release of The Doors' classic album: L.A. Woman.  Many listeners will readily know the hits from that album: "Love Her Madly" and "Riders on the Storm."  Plus, the catch phrase Mister mojo risin' from the title track.
But Derringer Discoveries decides to forego an exploration of The Doors in favor of focusing on an L.A. alternative rock band called Livingmore, featuring Alex Moore and Spencer Livingston, with Mike Schadel on drums.  Alex gave Derringer Discoveries two exclusive interviews, providing fascinating insight into Livingmore's songwriting process.
As a result, Livingmore supersedes The Doors, becoming the featured artist for Episode 35.  And Alex turns Team Derringer onto other L.A.-based recording artists, such as Jen de la Osa of the band Aloud and a Janis Joplin-esque rocker who goes by the moniker MAWD (real name Madeline Mathews).  Then, there's the other L.A.-based women who have been featured on playlists created and promoted by Derringer Discoveries and Turnip Music Radio.
In this episode, no one Jumps the Shark and no one Crosses the Rubicon.  Instead, today is a countdown of Team Derringers' five favorite songs by Livingmore, with commentary on each song provided by Alex.

Life After Rush (EP34)

For over 40 years, the band Rush defined progressive rock. Often far from the mainstream, they made their own way by pushing back against management, the record industry, and even their own fans.
In this episode, Derringer Discoveries welcomes longtime friend and Rush super-fan, John B. Derringer (via Zoom) to help the team discuss what the surviving members of Rush, Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee, have been doing since the passing of their long-time drummer and lyricist, Neil Peart. Also, Team Derringer chooses their favorite Rush songs from the band’s immense catalog and Rush aficionado, John B. Derringer weighs in on each member’s selection. John even shares a couple of his favorites as well!
Post Episode Bonus: MAIAH WYNNE
In March of 2022, Derringer Discoveries had the privilege of interviewing Maiah Wynne, a talented singer/songwriter/actor and, most recently, lead singer of Envy of None! Originally intended to be a loosely knit musical collaboration between Maiah Wynne and former Coney Hatch bassist, Andy Curran, the project soon grew into a full-fledged band once Curran’s friend and former Rush guitarist, Alex Lifeson, joined the band.
Team Derringer interviewed Maiah just prior to the release of Envy of None’s eponymous album. Maiah joined Derringer Discoveries via Zoom from a remote town in Montana where she was on the set of a movie in production.
Her original songs, collaborations, and covers run the gamut of indie-ballads to heavy hard rock. Maiah has won many national and international contests during her career and has developed songs and videos in support of the Apollo moon landing, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Education for young boys and girls as well as such worthy causes as mental health awareness and MMIW USA (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women USA).
In this episode, you'll hear how Maiah got started as a musician, about her David vs. Goliath battle with Lionsgate Entertainment Corporation, and her plans to release an upcoming album of her own original compositions.

Genesis vs. Gabriel (EP33)

Between formation in 1967 until 1977, the English progressive rock band Genesis lost a total of eight band members.  By 1977, they were down to three: keyboardist Tony Banks; bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford; and drummer/singer Phil Collins.  These are the three who, in 1977, shot to worldwide superstar status, peaking in 1991 after securing 17 now-classic hits in the interim.  These are the same three musicians who, in March 2022, played their final live performance, thus bringing Genesis to an end after 55 years of on and off and on again existence.
Meanwhile, one of the eight members who departed Genesis in the early years was Peter Gabriel who also had a stellar career, giving the world an impressive number of now-classic hit songs.  In this episode, you will learn which #1 hit by Gabriel knocked a song by Genesis out of the #1 spot on the music charts.  Think about this: An artist knocked his former band out of the #1 spot.  How many times in the history of Rock & Roll has this happened?  Listeners: Exactly once!  Listen up to find out which two songs were involved.
As you will hear in this episode, pundits have long held that music lovers cannot be both a Genesis fan and a Gabriel fan.  The kitchen-sink logic is that you either love Genesis or you love Gabriel.  You cannot love both, because they are diametrically opposed.
In this episode, Team Derringer conducts a countdown of five classic songs.  In so doing, each Derringer reveals whether they prefer Genesis or Gabriel and then they relay their favorite song by their preferred artist.  This takes the four Derringers from #5 to #2 and then for the #1 honor, they call on special listener and recording artist Rose Alaimo from Ithica, New York to reveal whether she prefers Genesis or Gabriel and then to give us her favorite song, which also happens to be the highest streaming song on Spotify by her preferred artist.  Stick around to find out the artist and the song!

Erin & The Wildfire (EP32)

In this Derringer Discoveries Rising Star episode, we highlight powerhouse singer Erin Lunsford and her terrific band, The Wildfire. Erin & The Wildfire are gaining fans and followers up and down the East Coast and beyond with their awesome vocals, excellent musicianship, positive messages, and high energy live shows.
Erin grew up in a small town in southwestern Virginia playing music around the area with her mom, a guitar teacher. It was while she attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville that she met her future friends and bandmates.
Seeking a larger market, the group eventually moved to Richmond, Virginia, and still considers the city their home base. Erin & The Wildfire are veterans of mid-Atlantic music festivals having RoosterWalk, FloydFest, and the LOCK’N Festival. They have shared NPR’s Mountain Stage with many notable acts.
Their much-anticipated sophomore album, Touch Feely, is scheduled to drop on April 1, 2022. (We're not kidding!) Many of the songs on the album are deeply personal and will resonate with a great deal of listeners. The band focuses on self-acceptance, body positivity, and life happiness through their catchy, uplifting songs. Fans of soul, R&B, disco-funk, and indie-pop won't find a better catalog of music!

Listening to Ukraine (EP31)

In this episode, Team Derringer shows support for Ukraine by sharing some of Ukraine's excellent rock and pop music with our listeners.
With much appreciated help from Kyiv-based recording artist Pasha Black, Team Derringer starts with Ukraine's two Eurovision winners, one from 2004 and the other from 2016.  Then, the Derringers reveal seven compelling Ukrainian Songs by seven Ukrainian recording artists, along with interesting insight on each featured artist and song.
In this episode, we all come together to listen to and support Ukraine.  No one will Jump the Shark and no one will Cross the Rubicon.  And since we are featuring nine Ukrainian recording artists (two Eurovision winners plus seven others), there is no Post-Episode Bonus.

Will Creedence Reunite? (EP30)

How long is too long?  In Episode 28, Derringer Discoveries covered a band that reunited with all four original members after a 40-year break.  Now, for this episode, the band under the microscope is Creedence Clearwater Revival, also known as Creedence or CCR.  They have been separated for 50 years!
CCR's line-up was Tom Fogerty, John Fogerty, Stu Cook, and Doug "Cosmo" Clifford.  Tom was John's older brother.  CCR broke up in 1972, not long after Tom quit the band.
Even though they have not been a functioning band for 50 years, they are still one of the Top 300 bands in the world, based on Spotify listeners.  Without a doubt, you will know their songs.  They even had a hit with Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" from their biggest selling album, Cosmo's Factory.
Tom has been dead since 1990.  The other three have been estranged since 1972.  In this episode, Team Derringer - Laura, Alton, Paul, and Dave - undertake five tasks: (1) A countdown of seven fantastic CCR songs spanning their seven albums; (2) Disclosure of CCR's #1 song, according to Spotify listeners; (3) Did they Jump the Shark; (4) Did they Cross the Rubicon; and (5) Will they reunite?

Tim & Neil - Better Together! (EP29)

In this Derringer Discoveries episode, we spotlight the careers of two exceptional artists from New Zealand. Both are prolific songwriters. Both are excellent musicians. Both have highly successful solo careers. Both have been (and still are) members of world-renowned bands; sometimes together, sometimes separately. Did we mention that they are siblings? Can you guess who they are? You won’t find the answer here in these show notes! You’ll have to listen to the episode to find out!
In our Post-Episode Bonus, we spotlight an extremely talented singer/songwriter/producer who goes by the moniker, Orion and the Melted Crayons. Orion Redwolf Faruque started playing music as a child in his mom’s church band. He has traveled the country while flirting with the punk, jazz, and metal genres. His journey began in Charlottesville, Virginia, and temporarily landed him in Minneapolis. Moving on from there, he explored the music scene in Cuba, later found himself on a mountain top in Asheville, North Carolina, and finally returned to Charlottesville to pursue his musical dreams.

Sweden’s Biggest Export: Reunited After 40 Years! (EP28)

The Derringer Brothers - Alton, Dave, and Paul - welcome a new member to the team: Laura Derringer.  They are now The Derringers (or Team Derringer).
The Derringers usually don’t talk about Money, Money, Money, which happens to be a hit song by ABBA, the world-renowned pop rock band featured in this episode.  However, since ABBA is from Stockholm, Sweden, the same place that is home to Spotify, the Derringers have been vigorously debating which entity is the bigger Swedish export: ABBA or Spotify!
Going against Spotify is the fact that, in FY2020, they posted a €581 million loss and FY2021 is not yet public.  In ABBA’s corner, the following factors give them a financial edge:
The four members of ABBA - Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, and Frida are each reportedly worth about €150 million.
When ABBA does absolutely nothing, they still manage to generate around €2.5 million in royalties every year and have done so for the past 40 years.
ABBA recently reunited after a 40-year break and their presence on the world stage is about to explode, starting in late-May 2022.
To celebrate the return of ABBA, the Derringers will undertake the following five tasks: (1) Reveal ABBA's Top Seven songs, as selected by ABBA-superfan Vivian and the four members of ABBA, as well as listener streams on Spotify; (2) Review the album Voyage, ABBA's first new collection in 40 years, and their upcoming ABBA-tar tour, scheduled to start in May 2022; (3) Consider whether Agnetha or Frida is the better singer; (4) Answer whether or not ABBA Jumped the Shark; and (5) Did they Cross the Rubicon?
The Derringers will relay interesting trivia, such as: (1) Why did Saturday Night Live (SNL) post a disclaimer on the TV screen during ABBA's performance in 1975? (2) What song sparked ABBA-mania in Australia? (3) Why did three of the members of ABBA sue their manager Stig Anderson? (4) Why didn't Frida join them in the lawsuit?
In addition, Derringer Discoveries will introduce you to a fantastic Swedish recording artist named Mats Dernánd.  Plus, the Post-Episode Bonus will feature Monique Angele, an up & coming singer-songwriter from Canada who now calls ABBA-mania Australia home.
